So it turns out that I really enjoy running and cycling. Swimming ended up being an unnatural extension of the two, by allowing me to participate in triathlons. Now, I'm a triathlete. Have been for a few years.
Last year, I managed to do 4 olympic distance events, as well as a Half Iron distance event. Less than a month after the Half Iron, I ran my 2nd marathon, 2 weeks later, I raced Iceman. I also raced several half marathons over the course of the year. Granted, I'm not particularly good at any of these. Iceman was a wreck, with a 3:08 finish. I've never bonked harder in my life. I took my marathon easy and finished in 4:17 which allowed me the opportunity to have ~3 beers while running it. I finished my half iron in 5:45, and I'm about a 2:35 oly triathlete. I'm racing half marathons about 1:40 consistently, with a PR of 1:38.
So here's my dilemma... I'm a graduate student with minimal time to train and boatloads of ambition. What do I do? Well, the plan for now is 2 April marathons, the 50 miler at Gnawbone, pace a buddy at Leadville, and Full Iron sept 11th.
Yikes. Ambition looks painful.
